I am so excited to share this with you all today because this is such an ENORMOUS change in the room that we live in the most in our house. Every single time I walk by it I smile... so I guess that means it is a good change.
We renovated our kitchen about 4 years ago, you can see more about that renovation here. I went with classic finishes, the white cabinets, the subway tile, the butcher block... all very simple things. It was quite an expensive renovation due to all of the new cabinets and paint we had to buy.
We didn't have to buy a new fridge which I was really glad about though. It saved us a lot of money, trust me! Although, a couple of months ago we did have an issue with our Amana fridge which was pretty annoying. It wasn't working properly so I had to go on a website like dcclondon.co.uk to contact a repairman. I thought he was going to tell me that we needed a new fridge but thankfully he was able to fix the problem. Our fridge goes well with the new decor in the kitchen so it would have been a shame to get rid of it. I also think that it is much better for the environment when you choose a company that can help you fix the appliance rather than throwing it away and choosing a new one. Fortunately, there are so many great companies out there that specialize in appliance repair san diego based or similar
Luckily, we had a lot more luck with our plumbing! We only needed to make a few small changes to the plumbing in our kitchen to get everything working and looking exactly how we wanted it. Our plumber was absolutely fantastic and could not have been more helpful. Again, we found our plumber online by researching companies like Sharp Plumbing & Heating. You can find just about any tradespeople online these days so I would strongly recommend looking around to find the right person for the job!
Anyway, our kitchen is small... like I think we have 8 lower cabinets small. I have been craving change in a lot of aspects of my life this year, and really just trying to be me and having my house reflect the people who really reside here. I have been in love with all the pretty tones of green I have seen trending, and particular a deep, saturated, moody green. I got this crazy hair to paint my all white island... you guessed it... green. I am so in love with the change, it's a total breath of fresh air around here! To do this project. I got a bunch of color samples of all the pretty greens at Lowe's. After swatching and mulling... I went with Fresh Basalm by Sherwin Williams. I used Sherwin Williams Showcase. I am pleased with how it self leveled pretty well, I just brushed it on the island exterior and doors. I used a wipe on poly to seal the deal and think it'll hold up great.
I might have forgotten the step when I asked my friends if I was crazy for changing my white kitchen, which was pretty as it was... about a hundred thousand times... oh and polling my Instagram Audience... maybe repeatedly. But in the end... I just did it.
Besides being a beautiful color, I'm excited to have a little more gracious finish on the island, particularly the side my kids sit on... I was forever wiping off tiny foot prints because this is their favorite spot to eat at. I love white don't get me wrong but... everything my kids touch needs to be forgiving... hashtag mom life.
I don't think we sacrificed any of the airiness I love even with such a saturated color. I was worried that this dark of a color would make our kitchen feel smaller, but I really don't think it does that either! I happen to love the change. It's making me want to revisit other areas of the home that I've fallen out of love with. I've been thinking about looking for a Shop for Cupolas and Weathervanes or something like that which would elevate the exterior. I just think the outside needs a little something extra.
So moral of the story, you do you. If you love something and want to try it in your home, I say do it! Because maybe it'll make you smile every time you see it... and to me that's totally worth any risk!
