I am so excited to share this with you all today because this is such an ENORMOUS change in the room that we live in the most in our house. Every single time I walk by it I smile… so I guess that means it is a good change.
We renovated our kitchen about 4 years ago, you can see more about that renovation here. I went with classic finishes, the white cabinets, the subway tile, the butcher block… all very simple things. Our kitchen is small… like I think we have 8 lower cabinets small. I have been craving change in a lot of aspects of my life this year, and really just trying to be me and having my house reflect the people who really reside here. I have been in love with all the pretty tones of green I have seen trending, and particular a deep, saturated, moody green. I got this crazy hair to paint my all white island… you guessed it… green. I am so in love with the change, it’s a total breath of fresh air around here! To do this project. I got a bunch of color samples of all the pretty greens at Lowe’s. After swatching and mulling… I went with Fresh Basalm by Sherwin Williams. I used Sherwin Williams Showcase. I am pleased with how it self leveled pretty well, I just brushed it on the island exterior and doors. I used a wipe on poly to seal the deal and think it’ll hold up great.
I might have forgotten the step when I asked my friends if I was crazy for changing my white kitchen, which was pretty as it was… about a hundred thousand times… oh and polling my Instagram Audience… maybe repeatedly. But in the end… I just did it.
Besides being a beautiful color, I’m excited to have a little more gracious finish on the island, particularly the side my kids sit on… I was forever wiping off tiny foot prints because this is their favorite spot to eat at. I love white don’t get me wrong but… everything my kids touch needs to be forgiving… hashtag mom life.
I don’t think we sacrificed any of the airiness I love even with such a saturated color. I was worried that this dark of a color would make our kitchen feel smaller, but I really don’t think it does that either! I happen to love the change.
So moral of the story, you do you. If you love something and want to try it in your home, I say do it! Because maybe it’ll make you smile every time you see it… and to me that’s totally worth any risk!
