How to turn your forgotten corners into cozy & inviting moments.

We all have forgotten corners in our homes that turn into a place to pile extra decor or other random household items. I have more corners that meet that description than I would like to admit. I Thought I would walk you through the process of turning a forgotten corner into a cozy & inviting moment. I recently created this cozy space in a corner of my master bedroom and I have loved how finished + warm just sprucing up this corner has made my entire room.

Step 1 : Start with a blank slate

This is what it looked like before we started. So sad and neglected. The first step I did was to remove the random things that have ended up here.

    Step 2: Create visual height

I brought in a tall dressing mirror as the first piece in my new corner arrangement. Creating visual height is key to any vignette. If you just set a chair in a corner without adding anything to help bring your eye up from the chair, it feels undone and almost like an afterthought. Creating visual height can simply be done by adding a faux tree, or a piece of art to the wall. The choice of wall art is incredibly diverse, ranging from classic paintings to contemporary pieces, and even customizable cat art pieces. For cat lovers, adorning your space with personalized art, such as cat pictures or cat art prints, can not only add visual height but also inject a unique touch of personality into your decor.

    Step 3: Add depth

Keep following me here- because I know this corner still feels questionable. I added this sitting chair in this corner to add depth. If you don't have room for a chair, I would think about adding a plant stand + larger plant to provide the same visual depth. Adding this layer of dimension and depth to the corner really does a lot to up the visual interest as well as the cozy factor.

If you don't have room for a chair, I would think about adding a plant stand + larger plant to provide the same visual depth. It is always good to go for real plants such as a fiddle leaf fig or monstera which can elevate a space by adding height to it. If you are unsure about caring for your fiddle leaf fig, there are plenty of guides out there to help you. You just have to do your research. Adding this layer of dimension and depth to the corner really does a lot to up the visual interest as well as the cozy factor.

    Step Four: Add Texture

This is where your little vignette really comes alive. This is also the step I see people skip all the time when I come into their homes for design consults, they get about 85% there and then forget to add the details that make a space feel warm and inviting. This is my favorite step because it makes the pieces in your home shine, and that is to add texture. In this corner, I added a throw blanket with a lot of cozy texture, and a pretty floral pillow, and hung some of my hats in the empty space above the chair. I may also add a quilt for the autumn season when it's not too cold to use a blanket. I can look for quilt cover sets that could work with the color theme. Moreover, this is where you get to add your personal touch and bring your personality out in your spaces. This corner has a lot of rather modern angles with the chair and clean-lined mirror, which I like but isn't totally me- so I brought my personality in with the final details and now it's 100% cozy + me... which are two things your home should always be. Cozy + a reflection of those who live there.
