I am so excited to share with you the design for our new nursery and to finally announce the gender of our 4th babe! We're having a girl! I am so excited, and I keep pinching myself in disbelief. We had talked about being done having kids for the last five years, and just decided on a whim to maybe consider juuuust one more. It all feels like a dream. We are all so thrilled over here and can not wait until August.
Wall Treatments
As usual, I gravitate toward classic finishes and want my nursery to feel comforting for adults to be in as well as the new little babe. I always joke that we had to sell our last house because I ran out of walls to put trim on. I would put trim on every single wall if I could, I just feel like it adds a special layer of texture and interest that is hard to create with anything other than trim. For the nursery, I want to do floor-to-ceiling bead board on the walls and then wallpaper the ceiling. I found the cutest birdie wallpaper and I'm crossing my fingers and toes that wallpapering a ceiling with my husband doesn't destroy our marriage. I had ordered a few different samples of wallpaper, not all I imagined on the ceiling but I just can't resist the idea of having them on the ceiling. I think it will feel so playful and fun.
However, to ensure that my hard work doesn't go in vain, I would most likely call a professional from a Denver roofing business before continuing with the ceiling wallpaper for a quality assessment. I mention this because, in most cases, when there is a roof leak, even a minor one, the water can seep into the wallpaper and ruin the entire design. I do not want it to occur.
I am thinking for the walls will paint them a dusty purple color that doesn't feel pastel but doesn't feel muddy. I have a list of colors to sample in mind but like every other paint, I always recommend trying out the color in your own home instead of just choosing one from the internet.
Paint always looks different inside different spaces depending on how much light they get and other finishes like flooring, etc. I can also consider modifying the flooring finish based on other interior elements, such as furniture, lighting fixtures, wall art, and more. Maybe I can check out Mikrozement - highly finished concrete flooring for the room since all types of interior features can work with it.
As for painting the nursery, I will probably sample half a dozen colors before I find one that is the right tone I am thinking and that's okay. I laugh at the idea of painting the nursery purple because when I was younger, back in the 90's, I remember how excited I was that my mom wanted to paint my room lavender and now purple is so back basically everywhere you look.
Other Design Details
The other finishes in this room are simple because the wallpapered ceiling is by far the star of the space and I really don't want to compete. I do plan on adding this adorable art piece from Minted that I have wanted since my last baby, a watercolor of a mother holding an infant in her arms. As well as a custom name banner from Etsy. If there is one thing I have learned from having my other children is that you really really do not need all the fancy bedding sets that are out there. I'm sure I'll find a cute crib sheet somewhere along the way and call it good.
I ran across the cutest gold mirror to add above the dresser. I love a touch of gold and the floral frame on this one is just too good. I think I've put a mirror somewhere in every single one of my nursery's over the years because baby's think their reflections are just so funny I can never resist having one.
I can not wait to bring this room to life. Of course I waited till summer in Arizona to start this, and right now the room that will be our nursery is filled with all sorts of junk and extra decor. I feel like it will be a joy to create though.
